Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday March 18. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

A very elusive PHAINOPEPLA has recently been seen in a neighborhood at
the south end of Grants Pass. It has been seen around the intersection of
Harbeck and Grandview Streets.

The Fernhill Wetlands LEAST TERN has not been been seen since March 10.

A much higher than normal number of SAY'S PHOEBES are being reported from
western Oregon this spring. The spring migration is now well under way
with flocks of swallows and VULTURES, the wave of ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLERS, and OSPREY returning to their nesting sites during the week.

The BURROWING OWL along 117th. Street east of Salem continues to be seen,
as are the CHIPPING SPARROWS at the intersection of Airlie Road and Berry
Creek Road, just east of Airlie. The MOCKINGBIRD is still being seen near
the pheasant pens in the E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area north of Corvallis,
and the two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS along 7 Mile Road west of Lebanon are
still in the area.

On March 17 a RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was in Whitehorse County Park west of
Grants Pass. Two RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS are also in the Park.

On March 13 an early SWAINSON'S HAWK was along I84 east of The Dalles. On
March 13 a flock of SNOW BUNTINGS was in northeastern Oregon near Flora,
and 90 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were near the town of Wallowa.
