I had a similar experience...
Several weeks ago, Gene Revelas and I led a Seattle Audubon field trip to
the Sequim-Dungeness area, and I was very surprised to see (for the day)
more Brant than Canada Geese. Of course I was not deliberately chasing
after flocks of Canada Geese :-)
