Juanita Bay Park is between Juanita and Kirkland on the east shore of Lake
Washington. To get there from 405, get off at the 116th St exit and go west
under the freeway, take a left at 100th, and you will see right in front of
you a long, straight boardwalk through some wetlands (used to be a road).
Follow 100th parallel to the boardwalk and past it, and take a right turn
into the parking lot at the first stoplight. This is in my opinion one of
the best birding areas on Lake Washington - at least as good as Montlake
Fill for waterfowl and marsh birds. For example, I have seen more rails and
soras here than anywhere else. In the spring, you can see nesting behavior
up close for a wide variety of species, waterbirds, marsh birds, swallows,
great blue and green herons, hummingbirds, and more. Also water critters
(beavers, muskrats) and hawks, eagles, warblers.
