Franny Drobny, Ruth Fisher, Jim Flynn, Laurie Ness, Steve Pink, and
Jason Starfire joined my wife and I for a long day of birding in
Klickitat County. I came up with a list of seventy-one species for the
day, I may have missed writing some down.
What I considered the highlights were:
1 COMMON LOON at Rowland Lake.
1 TUFTED DUCK at Locke Lake.
80 WILD TURKEYS in a field on the West side of the White Salmon High
School, (according to students there, they are resident). According to
our son, who is a Game Dept. employee, these birds have caused numerous
damage complaints and they have live trapped and transplanted birds from
this flock for several years.
1 LONG-EARED OWL at Maryhill Museum.
3 ACORN WOODPECKERS at the granary tree near the intersection of Balch
Rd. and Old Highway 8.
2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS spotted in the trees near the entrance to
Maryhill State Park by Jason Starfire, these were a new addition to my
Klickitat County list.
And finally several singing LESSER GOLDFINCHES also near the entrance to
Maryhill State Park.
