Eleven of the world's 15 species of cranes are endangered worldwide through
loss of habitat and hunting. The most vulnerable areas are tropical and
subtropical regions of Africa, Asia and North America, where an increase in
human populations poses the greatest threat to cranes and the wetlands and
grasslands in which they live. Join Dr. George Archibald as he tells the
story of cranes around the world, and what the International Crane
Foundation is doing to help.

Dr. George Archibald is considered the world's leading authority on cranes.
He is one of the cofounders and currently Director of the International
Crane Foundation (ICF), headquartered in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Dr. Archibald
is also Chairman of the International Council for Bird Preservation's World
Working Group on Cranes. Studying cranes throughout the world since 1972,
George Archibald's treasured personal goal is to use cranes as a vehicle for
cooperation between politically polarized nations.
