On Sunday, March 21st , in the Safeway parking lot in Port Angeles WA, we
spotted 7 TUVU headed northwest. And when we returned to our house
in-between Sequim and Port Angeles , we counted 50+ raptors with a few
circling, but overall headed northwest following the Olympics. We saw TUVU,
BAEA , of the numbers of each species I am not sure, and at least one SEOW .

When we left the next day (3-22), in-between Sequim and Port Angeles , but
more on the Sequim side, we saw 10 TUVU , and 4 RTHA. Oh, also on the 21st
at our house, we saw our "mystery" sapsucker.

It's back was black with a lot of white splotches, the white moustachial
stripe was somewhat elongated, it's flank and side were heavily barred with
black and white, it's breast was red, but not as extensive as on most RBSA I
normally see. It had a white supercilium, the back of its neck and a bit on
the side of the face had black, gray and white mottling. On the crown and a
bit on the side of its face (the front half; it looked as though it went as
far back as the auriculars) was red . Its belly and the bit of its breast
that weren't red had relatively bright yellow.

We saw another sapsucker at our home , that I at first thought was normal,
but the back of its neck was black with two white stripes going up it, and
it had one very faint vertical white stripe on the red on the side of its
face.
He flew off so I didn't get a chance to see any other field marks that may
have differed from a normal RBSA.
We've seen the first sapsucker I described for what I would guess to be over
7 months. I haven't seen the second bird since. I'd like to know everyone's
opinion on what kind of hybrid? this could be.

We had our first pair of VGSW around the 17th, and our first Rufous
Hummingbird on the 20th.

3-23 On the corner of Voice Of America Road in Sequim WA, we saw a
male and female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD in the brambles on the left side of the
road when you're headed towards the water.
A male and female NOHA, an adult and immature (the immature chasing the
adult..) BAEA on the right side of the road. Maybe 60 or so Wigeon flew over
, calling as they went.

A lone SHORT-EARED OWL on Kitchen Dick road, right next to Voice Of
America Road. 2 RED-TAILED HAWK on Kitchen Dick as well.

On Old Olympic Road, we saw 3 RED-TAILED HAWK and 5 TURKEY VULTURE.

Up Deer Park Road, on the left side of the road headed towards the mountains
not to far up, we saw one SHRIKE,I've never seen a Loggerhead, and have only
seen a Northern twice or thrice, so I need help.........
It was blue-gray above, white below, and we couldn't see any barring on the
underparts . It had a short thick bill, with no hook visible. The mask
went above the eye and over the bill. The rump appeared to be white......
The bird seemed overall to be shorter and stockier than the other shrikes I
had seen previously .
A little further up the road we had a lone male PILEATED WOODPECKER, and
then at our home we had two more one male and one unknown, it appears that
they are coming back now; there was a short time in which we had very few to
no PIWO at all.
About 6 CANADA GEESE as well as all the usual birds.
