hello tweets.

since today's weather looked blustery, i decided to browse
through shelves and shelves of books, instead of slogging
my way through swamps, fending off killer geese with my
rapidly dissolving arm cast. i managed to find some sweet
deals today on bird books at half-price books, and there
are a few such books remaining, waiting to join your book
collections. the books that you might be interested in;

birds of prey by leslie brown (256 pp) which covers the
natural history of all the world's diurnal raptors. it also
(on first glance) has some nice photos and pen-and-ink
illustrations. i paid $7.98. there are three more copies of
this book in two different locations in the store.

taking wing by pat shipman (336 pp) which covers the
history of the evolution of birds -- from dinosaurs or
from reptiles? -- debate. it talks about both sides of
this debate, is clearly written and includes some beautiful
illustrations, usually inset into the text. there is one
copy of this book on the new arrivals shelf, and it costs
$12.98.

other interesting items;

bird, egg, feather, nest by maryjo koch (art with some text)
$9.98

song of the dodo by david quammen (island biogeography)
$9.98

peterson flashguides $2.98 each
... western trailside birds
... pacific coast birds

all books were spotted at the roosevelt half-price books without
the aid of binoculars. i am not an employee of half-priced books
nor do i get any benefit from reporting terrific book buys, except
for personal satisfaction.
