So now there is time kept by a calendar BC/AD, and now BT, before Toro.
I'm slow, took me a minute to understand before Toro (shows i rarely
mow).

The geese comments are pertinent, but what perked up my ears was the
idea that 'fuzzy' yards also cut down on starlings and crows.

My own yard seems to attest to that. While I've never had a lot of grass,
our yard was fairly open as we cleaned up and started planting.
we've had construction and I've done a lot of new plantings (shrubs) over
the last ten years. Now that things are starting to appear truly shrubby,
and the trees are really trees, there has been a noticeable decrease in
crows at or near my feeders, and also fewer starlings, despite
the fact they are nesting in the eaves of the house next door.

Unfortunately the house sparrows don't care.

But it is kind of fun to run out into the yard and scare them.

And I still get an occasional sharpie zooming into the bushes
after a fat sunflower feed finch.
