hello tweeters.

i went to the montlake fill today for a quick look around. as
you all know by now, even my "quickie" tours throught the fill
often take more than an hour, but today was especially quick.
i was at the fill for only 45 minutes, from 100-145pm. while i
was there, i did see a few birds worth mentioning; 24-26 Least
Sandpipers on three different ponds, 2 Western Sandpipers, 2
flying Common Snipe, and 1 Belted Kingfisher (probably a male,
even though he was fairly far away, flying along the shore of
the fill that touches lake washington). i also noticed that the
swallow numbers have increased dramatically; i see literally
hundreds at any one moment, some of whom like to play an aerial
game of "chicken" with my face. i checked the flicker nest today,
which was silent and appeared empty, and i also checked the
Killdeer nest. the hen is sitting very tightly on the nest, so
i wonder if hatching is imminent?
