An announcement before the sightings. After about three years as one of
the operators of the Bird Alert, I am taking myself out of the regular
rotation so this will be my last update. I appreciate the support I have
received from the birding community over the last three years.


Sightings for Friday, May 7

The BLACK-NECKED STILT was on the inner ponds at Iona and an AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER and 3 HORNED LARKS were on the Iona south jetty. A WESTERN
KINGBIRD was on the fence at the south end of the Iona causeway. An
AMERICAN KESTREL was in the area. A YELLOW WARBLER and the spring arrival
MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER were at the Cora Brown subdivision on Sea Island.

Fourteen WESTERN TANAGERS and 2 OSPREY were at Maplewood Flats and 2
GREY-CROWNED ROSY FINCHES were near the West Vancouver seawall at 21st.

QE Park had 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 2 WARBLING VIREOS, TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE
and a WESTERN WOOD-PEEWEE.

In out-of-town sightings, the following were seen this week in Tofino on
the West Coast of Vancouver Island: a LONG-BILLED CURLEW, a BAR-TAILED
GODWIT, a MARBLED GODWIT, 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS and 3 PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVERS.

Sightings for Thursday, May 6

A HERMIT WARBLER and 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS were at QE Park in a huge fallout
of warblers. Iona had a BLACK-NECKED STILT, 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, a
SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 4 BLUE-WINGED TEAL and 3 RING-NECKED DUCKS. The spring
arrival WESTERN TANAGER was at Cecil Green Park at UBC. A WESTERN KINGBIRD
was on the airport fence at the south end of the Iona Causeway.

Reese Lake in Langley had a 16 RING-NECKED DUCKS. Three Parasitic JAEGERS
were seen form the Tsawwassen Nanaimo ferry.

Sightings for Wednesday, May 5

Iona had a BLACK-NECKED STILT and a WILSON'S PHALAROPE on the NW pond
