Subject: NAMC-Clatsop Co. OREGON 5/8/1999 (preliminary results)
Date: May 8 15:58:44 1999
From: Mike Patterson - mpatters at OregonVOS.net

Todd Thornton and I made a tour of Clatsop Co birding spots today. The
count from our efforts looks to be about 116 species. Others who put it
time in Clatsop Co are asked to drop me a list.

The weather ran the gamut from sun to rain to snow with about 4 inches on
the ground over Nicolai Mt mainline.

Highlights:
GLAUCOUS GULL at Wireless Rd
51 SOOTY SHEARWATERS and 2 FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS at Ecola State Park
along with 68 BONAPART'S GULLS, and 12 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES.
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES everywhere including 144 at Warrenton SP and 67
at Cannon Beach SP.
3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS at the Neawanna Wetlands (it's a bit late).
80+ GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS (also slow to leave)
3 HERMIT THRUSHES (and they should be gone by now)
We could only find 6300 COMMON MURRES apparently down from previous
years and 21 TUFTED PUFFINS (which just about expected)

Puzzling misses:
The Ospreys were not on the 101 nest

Mike Patterson I don't swear for the hell of it.
Astoria, OR Language is a poor enough means of communication
mpatters at orednet.org and we've got to use all the words we've got....
Besides, there are damn few words anybody understands
