Preservation of the species goes deeper than mere comparative
constructs such as lesser and greater. Consider what a mother goose
would do upon arriving at the top of a waterfall and seeing one of her
goslings next to a hapless human, both about to be swept away. See ya

If we carried your logic to its eventual conclusion, Stanley, then all
you would have is yourself to blame when the last living thing on this
planet is you.
