Subject: Yellow-headed Blackbird (male) at Green Lake

Greetings, again,

While walking around Green Lake around 9:30 (Monday May 10), I heard the
unmistakable "song" of a Yellow-headed Blackbird (Agelaius xanthomus) coming
from a birch tree. Sure enough, there was a male in full Alternate plumage,
sitting 3 m. (10') up in the tree, preening and occasionally announcing his
presence.

This is only the second time I've found this species at the lake. The first
time was many years back around this time of year. That particular
(immature) male remained in the cattails along Aurora Avenue for three weeks
before moving on/disappearing. Today's bird was in a birch tree between the
(inside) path and the water near the play fields on the east side of the
lake (when walking from the play fields to the Aqua Theater, shortly after
the grated outlet, the third birch after the "point" where people fish).
Just stop and listen....
