I was up by Oak Harbor on Whidbey Monday, and saw a rufous-morph
Red-tailed Hawk. It was watching the fields south of Waterloo Road,
just short of 1 mi. S. of Swantown Rd. on Hwy20.
Beautiful bird; I watched it scanning the fields from a power pole for
about 25 min. It flew 2 times, scanned the fields then returned to a
different pole. During that time another red-tail flew over and scanned
the fields. The rufous bird paid no attention, just kept looking for
dinner. This is the 2nd time I've seen this bird there (last time was
May1), so it might be a resident.
