Subject: Instantaneous nestbox recruitment

Part of this year 9th grade wetlands project invloved the placement
of nest boxes to replace lost natural cavities (every snag at that
end of the Astoria Airport has been removed.)

Within minutes of the placement of the first box a pair of TREE
SWALLOWS were checking out the hole. The nestbox team had moved no
more than 10m away to the next post. Within an hour the male was
exhibiting territorial behaviors and the female was moving in grass
and feathers.

I've been putting up swallow boxes for 10 years now and this is the
fastest recruitment I've ever seen.
