Yes, sometimes recruitment can be amazingly fast. I remember talking to a friend
who was putting up bluebird next boxes in Crocker Meadow (north of Beckwourth in
Plumas County) in the eastern Sierra Nevada several years ago. He and another
friend had Western and Mountain Bluebirds buzzing around there heads as they
nailed the boxes up. One bluebird even went in the box while it was being
attached. Nesting materials were being brought in as soon as they climbed back
down the ladder. Guess its a comment on the lack of natural nesting holes in the
area.
