One thing has changed - the annual Beer and Wine festival over
Memorial Day weekend at the Frenchglen Mercantile.

Literally a sudsy oasis and birder and conservationist friendly
environment. And the opportunity to meet a few of the more
friendly, non-xenophobic locals, though it's weird seeing them
wear sacks over their heads so the other locals won't recognize
them (an exaggeration, but not much of one).

Seriously, Memorial Day weekend at Malheur is not to be missed
if you enjoy serious birding, serious birders, serious fun,
and - with luck - serious sun.
