Six birders went on the monthly field trip of the E. Lake WA AS (ELWAS) to
the Tukwila and Kent Ponds. We had 18 species at Tukwila and 32 at Kent Ponds
with an overall total of 37 species. We were disappointed in not seeing the
numbers of shorebirds that have been reported at the Kent Ponds earlier this
week. We only saw 10 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. The
three WESTERN GREBE were still there, along with two NORTHERN PINTAIL, 10
GADWALL, 6 BUFFLEHEAD, 20 NORTHERN SHOVELER, and 12 RUDDY DUCK. Other
sightings of interest were 5 RED-TAILED HAWKS, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, and a pair
of RING-NECKED PHEASANT.

After getting back home, a pair of RED CROSSBILLS showed up at our tube
sunflower seed feeder. These are the first Red Crossbills I have recorded for
our backyard. We had a PILEATED WOODPECKER yesterday and regularly have two
BAND-TAILED PIGEONS come to the sunflower seed feeder. Also, this morning
heard the first WILSON'S WARBLER for this year.
