Jerry,
In my New National Geo, I didn't feel that the backs of my Vireos and
Kinglets are brown. They still appear Olive colored. We just got in
our copies and so maybe I'll compare a bunch of books to see if there
are variations.

I wasn't crazy about the illustrations of the Pacific-sloped
Flycatcher. I thought the bill was all wrong as was the overall look of
the bird. I like the crispness of the plates but I don't like many of
the new illustrations. Check out the Meadowlark and also the
Swainson's Thrush pages. I thought the old ones were better. Still I
am enjoying the book. Its nice to have an update on the names of the
birds. Now maybe I will get used to calling our Solitary Vireo a
Cassin's Vireo.
