Subject: Tree full of tanagers

On Tuesday, I was sitting in the van with one of my daughters (while the
other was at violin lessons) on McCormick St. in Olympia. My daughter
casually said, "Dad, there's tanagers in that tree." Sure enough! The tree
in question was a bigleaf maple, in bloom, and it was full of tanagers, at
least fourteen at once, with quite a few more milling around. They were
hover-feeding at the blooms, and drinking from puddles along the street.
Every one of them was a male. So, those of you waiting for tanagers,
they're coming.
