Well, the hummers finally arrived en masse at my feeders. I keep getting
buzzed by a particularly aggressive male rufous. We've named him
Mephistopheles.

It's easy for me to identify male and female rufous hummingbirds. However,
I keep getting this one type that I can't ID.

They're relatively small, and sort of drab brownish all over. Some of them
have these little "goatees" on their chin; just little patches of darker
feathers. Are these newly fledged rufous juveniles?

I know that the majority of hummers that I'm going to see in Woodinville are
going to be rufous. But are there any other varieties I should be on the
lookout for? My Stokes guide indicates that I might see the occasional
calliope or black-chinned. Is this true, or more unlikely? Has anyone else
west of the Cascades seen any this year? I find it hard to believe that all
these dozens I'm seeing are *all* rufous.

Thanks in advance for your help!
