Hi, Tweeters,

Today I witnessed a crow kill a hatchling killdeer. Apparently he'd been
perched on one of the fir stumps behind my property. There's a killdeer pair
that nest back there every year. The action caught my eye...the crow swooped
the short distance from the stump to the ground and pecked hard at something.
The killdeer parents were suddenly screaming and flying around the area. The
crow swung a baby killdeer up in the air and slammed it to the ground. That's
when I took my pellet rifle and took a shot at it...yes, folks, I shot at a
crow in the act of predation. Too bad I didn't hit it..anger throws my aim
off. I know, I know, I was interfering in act of nature..but there's too
damned many crows out here now. I won't go into that again.

The crow flew off, cawing. I went out to the spot. The killdeer parents were
in a panic, screaming and doing the broken wing act for me.....I found the
hatch year killdeer. It'd had it's head pecked in so hard it looked as if
some one had used a nail gun on it. Poor thing......I put the body in the
trash..sorry, mr. crow, but you aren't having killdeer for breakfast.
