the problem with this IMHO is that it leads to a proliferation of lists
and thus to a proliferation of messages when people subscribe to the
various lists. it has already reached the point where i frequently
receive three copies of some messages. it is not a significant problem
for me since i am not billed on a per message basis -- but some people
are.
