Columbia Estuary Report 05/18/1999

GOLDEN-CROWNED and LINCOLN'S SPARROWS continue to be seen in suspisciously
large numbers.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was flycatching early Thursday morning at the Mitigation
bank near the Astoria Airport. An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was there later
in the day.

Noticeable pushes of WESTERN TANAGERS, BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, WARBLING
VIREOS and YELLOW WARBLERS have been evident all week. SWAINSON'S
THRUSHES have finally arrived within the last day or so. Still very
quiet PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS were mist-netted on the Neawanna
wetland Sunday.

A few FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS are still being seen at the Seaside
Cove. Large numbers of BONAPART'S GULLS and a few SABINE'S GULLS were
taking advantage of the kleptoparasitic possibilities among the
COMMON LOONS at the SJCR on Saturday.

Shorebird numbers are down from the peak a couple weeks ago, but there's
still a few Calidrids around.
