Hi again tweeters,
Wish I didn't have to work. We would be out there (someplace)
everyday.

Today we drove down Barker Canyon road, west of Grand Coulee
off of
Hwy 174. It was another lovely spring day. Found a few
surprises.

Right after we turned off the highway there was a baby
KILLDEER. Jerry got out and sat down by the ditch and the
little guy came so close that he couldn't focus the camera.
(less then 8' for the 300/4 lense) The parent was close by
doing the broken wing act. As soon as we left they were
reunited.

There is a pond maybe 3 miles down the road. In the trees at
the southend
of the pond were several YELLOW RUMPED WARBLERS and one lovely

WESTERN TANAGER. Wow! What color.

Farther down the road, there was a HERMIT THRUSH. And then, in

the bushes, TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS also saw a WARBLING VIREO and
a WESTERN WOOD PEEWEE What a day. This six miles
of road took us about four hours and we loved every minute of
it.

We saw two TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES that we had a bit of a
problem
IDing at first. The patches on their wings looked cream
colored instead of the
"rusty/orange" color that it shows in the field books. But by
other markings we
finally identified them as TOSO'S.

Another good day. Hope you all got out for a "treasure hunt".
