Subject: Penn Cove report from Tuesday, 5/18

Tweets,

10 birders spent all or part of Tuesday afternoon (up
until ~ 6;15 pm) covering the western end of Penn Cove from
Ebey's Landing (Coupeville Dock) to Monroe Landing near the
northeastern end of the "cove". Viewing conditions were
ideal in the western lee near Kennedy's Lagoon, less so (but
still good) farther east. The tide was low, then incoming.

Many spp. of waterbirds were seen including 2 spp.
loons, 3 spp. grebes, and a variety of waterfowl including 3
spp. scoters, Harlequin Ducks and Barrow's Golden-eyes. The
only definite alcids were Pigeon Guillemots (many) and
Rhinoceros Auklets (few).

Despite various false alarms mainly on distant birds, to
the best of my knowledge nothing approaching the bird
described Sunday and Monday by Steve Mlodinow and then Greg
Toffic was seen on Tuesday afternoon.
