Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday May 20. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On May 17 a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at Eagle Point north of Medford.
The COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD is still coming to a Bend feeder. A GREAT-TAILED
GRACKLE was at Fields on May 14.

Recently a SCOTT'S ORIOLE was observed at Mt. Vernon. It then moved to a
John Day park. It was last seen May 14. It was well observed and
photographed.

Very heavy shorebird movements were reported during the week with RED
KNOTS still being seen along the coast. Lingering KITTIWAKES, SABINE'S
GULLS, and FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS are still being reported.

A major wave of landbirds was reported throughout Oregon during the week,
including large flocks of WESTERN TANAGERS. An unusually large number of
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS were reported from the Willamette Valley. WESTERN
KINGBIRDS are still being seen west of the Cascades.

A flock of 12 WHITE-FACED IBIS were flying northward over the ocean off
Brookings May 16; a VEERY was at Gold Beach May 14; an ASH-THROATED
FLYCATCHER was at Pony Slough May 15; and on May 19 a SAGE THRASHER and a
MOCKINGBIRD were on the North Spit of Coos Bay.

On May 15 a flock of 15 BLACK SWIFTS was at Beaver Creek, south of
Newport. Six were over Siletz Bay the next day. One was at Fort Stevens
State Park May 15. A probable pair of CASSIN'S FINCHES are now being seen
near Beaver Creek, south of Newport.

An ARCTIC TERN was at Yaquina Bay May 13 and two PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS
were there last week-end.

A BANK SWALLOW was at Washougal May 16. Four YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS
were at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove May 16. A BLACK TERN was
there the next day.

A SABINE'S GULL was with a flock of COMMON TERNS and BONAPARTE'S GULLS at
Baskett Slough NWR May 18. A WHITE PELICAN is now at Baskett Slough.
Several WILSON'S PHALAROPES are now on the refuge so they may be nesting
again this year.

A CASPIAN TERN continues to be seen around Fern Ridge Reservoir. A
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at a Sutherlin feeder May 19.

A FORSTER'S TERN was at the mouth of Hood River May 17. A WHITE-WINGED
SCOTER was on the Prineville Sewage Ponds May 16. A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER
and a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER were at Big Summit Prairie in the Ochoco
Mountains that day.

GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES are still being seen on Hamaker Mountain near
Keno. RED KNOTS and RUDDY TURNSTONES are still being seen at the Lower
Klamath NWR.
