This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS made a big appearance this past week. A
single bird persisted for several days, including May 11, at the
feeder of Jerry & Sandy Converse in Grand Coulee, Washington. Another
single bird was at the feeder of Dave Holick on Moscow Mt., Latah
County, Idaho on May 9 & 10, and Tom Besser, also on Moscow Mt., had a
single bird on May 11 and 2 birds on May 12.

Single LINCOLN'S SPARROW's were reported from Moscow, Latah County,
Idaho. Charles Swift had one at his feeder on May 8 and Dave Holick
had a single bird on May 9 & 10.

A single HARRIS'S SPARROW was in Couer d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho
on May 8 & 9. Like the rest of the previously reported migrant
sparrows, I doubt this bird is still around. If you want to check,
call Janet Callen at 208.664.1085 in the evening.

Two late COMMON REDPOLLS were feeding on dandelions in Coeur d'Alene,
Kootenai County, Idaho on May 10 according to Stephen Lindsay. Dr.
Lindsay also reports the HARLEQUIN DUCK, present for about the last
month near North Idaho College, was still there on May 8. The bird
has been found along the dike road that runs between the college and
the Spokane River. To get there from the intersection of US 95 and
Northwest Blvd on the south end of CdA, take Northwest Blvd southeast
about 0.5 mile and turn right onto Lincoln Way. Go one block and turn
right onto River Avenue. Follow River Avenue about 0.25 miles to
Rosenberry Drive which runs along the top of the dike along the river.
See A Birders' Guide to Idaho p. 50 and ID DeLorme 60, B-1.

A WHITE-FACED IBIS was on the Walla Walla River delta, Walla Walla
County, Washington on May 8, according to Dale Witzenburger, Dennis
Rockwell and Lyle Kuhn. Also at the delta was a great smattering of
other species, including 20 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 37 AMERICAN AVOCETS,
12 DUNLIN, 14 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 6 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 71 CASPIAN TERNS,
and 2 FORESTER'S TERNS, according to Dennis. Just north of the delta,
Dennis reports 33 BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 10 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and
7 LEAST SANDPIPERS at the settling ponds at the Iowa Beef slaughter
plant. The delta is in western Walla Walla County, just north of the
junction of US 12 and US 730. Park in the pullout opposite Madame
Dorianne Park and follow the worn paths down to the delta. To get to
the slaughter plant, head north on US 12 from the delta to Iowa Dodd
Beef Road. Turn east and follow it to the plant. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.
