Hi,

This is partly in response to Ed Newbold's message (below). Shoreview
Park is in danger of having a Little League field built in the most
environmentally sensitive (and most bird-rich area) of the entire park.
It seems as if the city council has already made the dicision to go
ahead with plans to develope this part of the park. I am afraid that
only a great deal of public pressure will make them change their minds.

The story of the ballfield is a very long and complicated one, so I am
not going to go into detail about how it all started. I will just say
that what the city council is doing does not make any sense. They want
to spend 2 Million dollars in Tax Payer Money (yes, thats you, in the
city of Shoreline) to build a ballfield and bathroom facilities. The
ballfield would be for the EXCLUSIVE use of a certain little league
team and others would not be allowed to so much as set foot on it. The
estimated cost of the ballfield alone is 1 Million dollars. There is
no excuse for it to cost this much. A field with an electric
scoreboard and a whole new drainage system was put in a the nearby
high-school for less than 300 thousand. There is also no reason why
this must be payed for exclusively by tax payers when lesss than 100
kids are going to use it for less than 40 days a year. I am going to
get a copy of the EIS from Ray Pelley this morning. Supposedly it is
far from bullet-proof. I'll let you all know more as I hear it.
