Bet that subject header got you all excited. Well to explain- we have a
vessel on a research trip fishing on Seward Gully. Seward Gully is about 70
miles offshore of Seward, Alaska in other words in truely pelagic waters.
The boat was hauling their longline gear yesterday and had a GREEN-WINGED
TEAL feeding amongst the Northern Fulmar. It was flushed off the water and
unfortunately ran into the rigging/mast and landed on deck. The biologists
on board tried to nurse it back to health but when they released it
overboard it died. I've seen a few passerines around fishing vessels
usually lost in the fog or otherwise offcourse but that's the first dabbling
duck I've heard of that far offshore.
