Hi Tweets,
Saturday, Janet and I finally ventured forth for a long delayed day of
birding in eastern Washington. We were hoping for a Long-billed Curlew.
In glorious weather the singing, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were
everywhere. They stood out against the blue marshes on Dodson Road.
REDHEADS, CINNAMON AND BLUE-WINGED TEALS were present, MARSH WRENS
rattling.
At one of the stops we wandered along a trail and found two GREAT-HORNED
OWLetts on a nest. An adult was below, and later we saw the other adult
later along the loop.
NW of Othello, were many BLACK-NECKED STILTS, a RUDDY DUCK and a pair
of WILSON'S PHALAROPES.
Later in the day while driving in the Columbia Wildlife Refuge we were
screeched at by a pair of LONG-BILLED CURLEWs. One flew and landed only
15 feet from the side of our car, a splendid view. Darn, no camera! We
were disturbing them so we dragged ourselves away.
What a great day!
Good birding to all,
