A solo tip to Ringold (on the Columbia river in Franklin County) on Thurs. the
20th started out promisingly enough but quickly ran short of birds. Many
Chipping Sparrows; a Westen Tanager; a Wilson's Warbler; and Northern
Orioles in every tree; A total of 24 species, but, as Craig Corder would say, no
jaegers.

Returning from Tacoma on the 21st, I detoured to the Umptanum Falls area in
Kittitas County. About 25 total bird species, including Yellow, Wilson's and
Nashville Warblers; also, a few (silent) empids, most of which I believe, but
don't quote me, were Hammonds; a couple of Western Wood Pewees; a
soaring Coopers Hawk; a Mountain Bluebird (and many Westerns); and a
couple of Western Tanagers.

Saturday (the 22nd) in Eltopia (also Franklin Co.) I was helping a group of
young scouts fulfill a requirement to identify 10 different native species of
wildlife, and we got a good look at a Townsend's Solitaire along a wind row of
poplars. Some of the other birds were a female Wilson's Warbler; lots of
Western Kingbirds; and a nest of Red-tailed Hawks (with young).

Thanks to all for responding to my question about where to bird in Tacoma.
I didn't have as long there as I thought I would, but I'm sure I'll be back.
