Carp jump during the spawning season. I'm not sure why they do it, but
they're not feeding, as I learned during many frustrating hours as a kid
with a fly rod. They will slurp food items off the surface at other times,
but their jaws aren't really built for bird. Now a bass or a pike - that's
another story. Not many of them in Green Lake, I imagine.

Swallows will hit the water repeatedly (drinking, or snatching up insects?)
so that would be my guess.
