Subject: Xbill alert: watch your feeders!

Hi, tweets,
We've had at least 3 dozen Red Crossbills coming
occasionally to our sunflower feeders for a couple of weeks
or more. Today, my wife Sue first spotted a glorious male
White-winged with them! In addition to the large white
blotches on the tips of the wing coverts, the bird's color
is much more rosy, and the wings much blacker, than the
Reds'. We also noted the thinner bill, adapted to dissect
smaller cones.
We've tried to figure out which type of Reds we have.
Unfortunately, the input side of my sound card isn't
working, so I can't create a sonogram :-(
