Subject: visible waxwing migration

Hi, tweeters.

This morning (5/28) on my drive to Tacoma, I saw 3 flocks (of ca 10, 20,
and 30 birds) of Cedar Waxwings heading north. Two flocks flew right along
I-5 at treetop level, the other crossed it perpendicularly near Fife. I
often see such flocks heading south in October. Most passerine birds
migrate at night, but flocking species such as this apparently choose to
migrate in flocks and thus have to do so by day (imagine trying to stay in
a tight flock at night).

Yesterday (5/27) there was only one migrant in my Seattle yard, a Warbling
Vireo.
