While zipping past the intersection of Westlake and Mercer, I noticed
quite a collection of baby canada geese. 30 or so babies, and only one
adult in sight! I thought perhaps I just didn't catch sight of the
adults, so went around for another peek.

Second count, from the parked car: Three adults. 27 babies. The young
were of varying ages, from little balls of fluff (these had an adult that
seemed to be 'their own') to near-fully fledged. The other two adults
present were simply grazing, not really paying attention to the young.

Quite a sight. I've had to stop on Westlake a few times before, to let
the adult geese amble past up the hill from the lake (aiming for Beppo's -
a goosey yen for pasta!?) but have never seen this many young without
adults in that area before.

So, do geese babysit?
