I'm not too surprised that the Brown (Rat) Tree Snake may now be in
Hawaii. Customs and State Quarantine have almost an impossible task to
inspect all the cargo and passengers between Guam and Hawaii what with
all the planes, commercial and military, and all ships, again commercial
and military, coming to Hawaii from Guam. There are so many places
snakes and other exotic organisms can stow away on airplanes and ships.
Also, every now and then some one tries to sneak something in,
deliberately and purposely. or through ignorance. Then give inspectors
hell when caught. I've had my geneaolgy traced in unflattering terms
when I caught somebody bringing in prohibited wildllife or parts
thereof. If you want an education, work in Customs or Quaratine for a
week. It will only be a matter of time when it makes its way here to the
Mainland. Sad, sad, sad. Gene Kridler
