Went kayaking at Nisqually Sunday - around five I heard an unusual bird
sound and in the part of McAllister Creek next to the I-5 freeway, a
cocktiel flew down to the bank next to me. It answered each whistle I
made, sat on the ground with its back to me and looked quite tired.
Bright yellow, yellow-green crest, grey and black pattern on the tail
feathers, bright red spot on side of head - I couldn't catch it - it flew
up parallel with the freeway but crossed back to that part of the
Nisqually refuge. Hopefully someone can entice this bird in - flying
around it is a highly visible tasty meal1
