Hello, Tweets

Following are the reports I have received of turkey vulture sightings for
the months of October and early November in Washington, Oregon, and British
Columbia (Salt Creek migration data not included):

October
02 -- 4 from the Maplewood Flats Sanctuary, North Vancouver, B.C.; 3 at
Porpoise Bay, northeast of Sechelt, B.C.; one at Woodland; 2 at Ridgefield
NWR; one at Sauvie Island, Oregon
03 -- 7 at Lighthouse Park, Point Roberts; 1 over the causeway at Iona
Island, B.C.; 1 at the north end of Camano Island
04 -- 22 over the Gorge Road Hospital on Vancouver Island, B.C.
06 -- ca. 100 at American Camp on San Juan Island
09 -- 10 north of West Vancouver's Fisherman's Cove, B.C.; 98 over Becher
Bay, B.C.
11 -- one over the Frasher Hwy in Surrey; 2 flying over the Nanoose Bay
area, B.C.
16 -- 2 near Pedder Bay in Metchosin, B.C.

November
01 -- one near Penn Cove, Whidbey Island

Thanks to all who reported turkey vultures. I had hoped that they would be
a lot more visible on their journey south, both down Hood Canal and through
the general Puget Sound area, but even though they are extremely large
birds, they are truly ephemeral: one moment there in huge numbers, the next
moment gone.

Cheers, Diann
