Carol Schultz and I spent a leasurly 5 hours on a gorgeous morning at Marymoor
today. The weather report was particularly inaccurate, as the day just got
nicer and nicer. We had some REALLY good looks at birds, and over 50 species
total.

Here are the highlights:

Double-crested Cormorant First of fall
Green Heron Beautiful bird, late-ish sighting
Cooper's Hawk 3 different birds
Northern Shrike Immature in East Meadow
Cedar Waxwing 2 - late-ish sighting
Fox Sparrow Finally numerous
Lincoln's Sparrow Many good sightings
Pine Siskin First of Fall

We were treated to a WESTERN GREBE just upstream of the weir, giving nice close
looks. There were more well out on the lake.

In the Rowing Club ponds, we had GADWALL, a gorgeous pair each of HOODED
MERGANSER and WOOD DUCK, four AMERICAN WIGEON, several GREEN-WINGED TEAL, a
bunch of BUFFLEHEAD, and of course, MALLARD.

Over the East Meadow, a NORTHERN HARRIER swooped quite close in great light.
Quite a treat.

We had a fantastic look at a male HAIRY WOODPECKER who hopped down and pecked
at the base of the trunk and along the edge of the roots of a large Cottonwood
tree.
