hello tweets.

i also, am looking for a new pair of binos, along with a decent
camera and two lenses. i expect that i can't afford any of these
intended purchases, however, i like to fantasize about them, anyway.

i was using my binos to study the sports photographers' cameras
while i was at last weekend's husky football game, and i noted that
all of the cameras were canon, except for one guy, who had nikon
cameras. i suspect that these canon caeras were the $2000 variety,
which is just a weeeeee bit more than lil' me can afford. i guess
this was a valuable wake-up call for me, though. especailly since
it was reinforced when i found out the price of one pair especially
wonderful of zeiss binos: $1350. hrm, i paid less than that for my
scope!

one thing that i am hoping to do is to try out binos (and cameras)
in the shops around seattle, figure out exactly what i want, and then
look for the cheapest source of what i want (probably on the web).
is this a good approach? or might i run into troubles, especially
if there is a problem with the equipment after i receive it?

i was looking at the recent birder's world magazine last night
and noticed that the "latest" seems to be binos with ruby-coated
lenses (?) that presumably give better resolution (color quality?)
under low light conditions. has anyone heard anything about the
supposed science behind this? has anyone used these binos? would
you recommend them?

i'll have more questions as my hunt for optical excellence continues.

regards,
