Hi Fellow Tweeters,

This week for finding owls. Friday my husband Bob and I were driving along
Dubuque Road west of Lake Roesiger when I thought I spotted an owl. (I
often think I've seen owls and they mostly turn out to be stubs of trees or
knotholes. In fact, so often that it has become a little joke :) This time
when we drove back it actually was a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL. It was asleep
in the sun perched on a post in a small garden about 10 feet off the road.

My next owl sighting was of a BARRED OWL at 9:25 this morning. I was
reading the TWEETERS digest from Saturday when I saw a large bird fly by.
There is a mirror in front of my desk and a sliding glass door behind it. I
saw a bird fly to my left in the mirror, so I jumped up and looked out the
window to my left and saw the owl settle in a cedar tree about 50' from me.
This is the first time I've seen the Barred Owl. I was on the 2nd floor so I
was eye level! We have owned this property in Mt. Vernon since 1976 and the
first time I heard Barred Owls was on August 3, 1997. It stayed for 45
minutes and yes, I was glued to it the whole time!

Happy birding,
