The flock of birders watching the EUKE at about 2 PM Sunday afternoon
were rewarded with an interesting interaction with a peregrine falcon. The
PEFA had killed a duck and was feeding on a piling beyond the dike, about 50
yards from the EUKE. The EUKE buzzed the PEFA but the PEFA was not about to
yield the half-eaten duck to this upstart. The EUKE perched on several
pilings nearby, waiting patiently for the PEFA to finish eating and also
giving us a good size comparison. The PEFA filled its crop to bulging and
moved off and the EUKE moved in immediately, snatched a large piece of duck
and disappeared below the dike, no doubt for a good meal and a nap. Did
he/she resurface later in the afternoon?
