Subject: WHOOPER SWANS NOT AT MAMIT LAKE ON NOVEMBER 9
Date: Nov 9 19:32:10 1999
From: WAYNE WEBER - WAYNE_WEBER at bc.sympatico.ca

Dear Birders,

This afternoon, November 9, Louise Rice of Kamloops searched Mamit
Lake in an attempt to find the 3 Whooper Swans that were there on
Sunday and Monday. However, in 2 hours of searching (1:00 to 3:00
P.M.), no sign of the Whoopers could be found. Louise combed the
entire shoreline of the lake, with special attention to the north and
south ends. Although at least 80 swans were present, none of them
appeared to be Whoopers. The swans were widely distributed around the
lake, rather than being all concentrated at the south end as they were
on Sunday.
It is quite possible that the Whooper Swans have just moved to
another nearby locality such as Nicola Lake or Guichon Flats. It is
also possible that they could be in Washington State by now, although
the weather was stormy and not good for migration this afternoon.
If anyone still wants to look for the Whooper Swans in the Merritt
area, please see the list of possible locations other than Mamit Lake
that were included in my posting yesterday. And if you find them,
please send out an E-mail message, or leave a message on the Vancouver
RBA tape (604-737-3074) as soon as possible!

Sincerely,

Wayne C. Weber
