I had a good morning at Shoreview this morning. I was
excited when I first got there because there was a lot
of activity at my favorite sparrow hedge (Just south
of the ballfield). Right away, I found a female
PURPLE FINCH in the hedge. I saw probably 4 or maybe
5 different purple finches in all this morning (WOW!).
Further inspection turned up an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW
and a white-striped WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. When I
saw the white-throated sparrow, whistled an imitation
of its song, and it responded. The problem I had was
after he moved to the area west of the soccer field
and ballfield. I lost track of him because he kept
flying back and forth across the area and I couldn't
tell if there was one bird singing or two. Then I
headed down to hidden lake. I was a little
disappointed the winter ducks haven't started hanging
out down there. All I found down there was 4 MALLARDS
and 3 BUFFLEHEAD (2 females and 1 male. I don't know
why, but the females always seem to outnumber the
males by about 2 or 3 to one). There was also a
BELTED KINGFISHER catching something in the lake. My
list from 8:30 9:20 this morning is as follows.
