Tweets,
Just got back from walking the dog and for the first time ever in my
neighborhood (Bitter Lake, N130th just west of Aurora) I heard a
Great-horned. It suprised me to hear one Great-horned in a fairly urban
area with no large parks, no ravines etc.. I've never heard any owl in my
neighborhood, though I'm often out walking the dog in the evening
darkness.
That's notable but not the reason for the post, I heard another call in
response to the GHOW. It was a single monotone squawk, not all that loud
that followed each series of hoots. I have never heard this call before,
I'm assuming a answering GHOW.... My question though is what is the
intention of this monotone squawk, I assume its too late for Juv. begging
call, not that they should be breeding anywhere around my neighborhood.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.....
Thanks,
