Just a footnote to Mike W.'s note about Close Scientific Instruments in
Seattle. I had an experience at Close that was much less positive, but
that at least helped me learn about Captain's Nautical Supplies in
Seattle, around 3 blocks south of the Ballard Bridge on 15th Ave. Here
you can see and look through around two dozen telescopes that are
mounted on tripods, you'll find a pretty good selection of
better-quality binoculars, helpful and knowledgable sales staff, and a
first-rate repair department.

If you want a discounter you'll find great selection and good prices at
Eagle Optics. If you're willing to pay a somewhat more for the service
Captain's Nautical Supplies is helpful, reliable, honest, and pleasant.
And that's saying quite a bit these days.
