Ryan Shaw and I were up in the Samish today and on Chuckanut we didn't see
the EUKE but did find a PRAIRE FALCON way out in the fields to the west of
the Bow Post Office. After not seeing the EUKE on Chuckanut we decided to
go looking for Gryfalcon around the flats. On sunset at about 11:30 we
stopped to look at a nice ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK sitting in a farm field. Boy
am I glad we did! Two falcons came zooming by. The lead falcon I instantly
recognized as the EURASIAN KESTREL, nice brown back, two toned wings, long
tail and long wings. The other bird was a PEREGRINE FALCON. The kept
flying to the south along th fields. I'm assuming that the bird was only
in this area because something had chased it out of its Chuckanut
location, and it will likely be back at the CHuckanut location. So we
ended the day with 3 falcons, but since EUKE and PRFA were among those,
not a bad 3 to have!
