I was just about to email David Chelimer about what he feeds his Annas during the winter, when I saw Ruth's and his posts. We have enjoyed Annas at our feeder winters since December 1985 when one showed up in a snow storm even though the feeder wasn't up in its normal summer location. I was so excited and reported to the fellow at Flora and Fauna Books whose name I can't remember, but knew was an Annas expert. He said "Do you live near Verietta Park or David Chelimer?" I said I live half way between.

Anyhow, for those of you with feeders, an auto trouble light (with exterior grade extension cord) helps keep the liquid liquid in hard freezes and doesn't seem faze the hummers. I know I asked last year if sugar water was adequate food for these critters in cold weather. I know they ingest insects trapped in nectar during the warm seasons. Any advice?
