I'm thinking of buying a scope and am wading through the information
available on the decisions to be made. Apparently one has to make five
decisions when buying a scope: body, eye piece, tripod legs, tripod
head, and 45 degree or straight through view on the scope body. There
seems to be lots written on the first 4 but I haven't come across much
discussion on 45 degree vs. straight through view angle for the eye
piece. I would love to hear other birders' opinions on this. Everything
I read says it is just a matter of personal preference but doesn't say
why one might prefer one over the other. I'm not tall so tripod height
isn't an issue.

So far I'm considering a Nikon Fieldscope III (60mm--I don't think I can
carry a bigger scope) with a zoom eye piece on a Bogen 3205 tripod with a
quick release head but I'm uncertain of the eye piece angle I should get.
